As part of the town of Bristol's commemorative celebrations, this exhibition will reflect on the enduring words of the Declaration of Independence.
Bristol Art Museum Presents a National Exhibition

When in the Course of Human Events…

Featuring works by 65 artists from across the nation, with a special spotlight on
Rhode Island artist Susan Hardy-Twaddell.

On View Sunday February 22 – Friday, April 10, 2026
Artist Reception on Sunday, February 22  |  2:00 to 4:00
In honor of the 250th anniversary of the United States, the Bristol Art Museum presents When in the Course of Human Events...

The exhibition was juried by Meredith Stern, a printmaker, publisher, and socially engaged artist. Her work has been featured in large-scale installations nationally and internationally, and is included in the collections of the Library of Congress, RISD Museum, MoMA, and the Obama Presidential Museum.

This exhibition invites artists to reflect on what follows the iconic opening line of the Declaration of Independence, exploring what it means to experience human events in our contemporary world.

The Bristol Art Museum gratefully acknowledges the
Brito Family Foundation for their generous support.
