Call for Art
Honoring the Past, Protecting the Future
Deadline January 27, 2024

Picture
Partnering with the Bristol Bookfest and the Rogers Free Library, the Bristol Art Museum invites you to create works of artistic imagery for an exhibit exploring the themes presented in the Bookfest 2025 selection, Ray Bradbury’s novel Fahrenheit 451.

Published more than seventy years ago, this dystopian novel presents a society where classic literature and historical documents are lost through the burning of books. Fahrenheit 451 reflects the concerns of the 1950’s: censorship and governmental controls, individuality, the reliance on electronic media as displacement for interpersonal interaction. How relevant are those themes today?

What then is the value of books and the freedom to choose and to read them? How do advances in technology change a society and its culture? What is our role as individuals in preserving knowledge from the past and ensuring the future for our descendants?
