A Call for Art Depicting Cultivated Nature
Into the Garden
at Rogers Free Library
On View April 28 - June 11
“The garden reconciles human art and wild nature, hard work and deep pleasure,
spiritual practice and the material world. It is a magical place because it is not divided.”
Thomas Moore
A garden is a pallet for creating a habitat of beauty and function. Whether a small bed or a large eld, gardens may be organized or wild, boisterous or serene, ornamental or practical. Create an artistic work that reflects your definition and sense of gardens. What do you believe makes for an attractive, inviting or useful space? Which flowers, plants, shrubs or trees do you imagine grow in your plot? Do animals, decorative objects or wild life share your greenspace? The exhibit will be on display to the public from April 28th through June 11th 2025. The Juror for this exhibit is Barbara Edmund Healy. She is a juried member of the National Association of Women Artists along with the Cape Cod Art Center. A Connecticut native, Healy studied textile design at UMASS Dartmouth. She lives and maintains a studio in that region. The South Coast serves as an inspiration for her garden and landscape art.
"Everything that slows us down and forces patience, everything that sets us back into the slow circles
of nature, is a help. Gardening is an instrument of grace."

About the Juror
Barbara Edlund Healy's paintings reflect the quiet beauty of the New England coast. Oil and acrylic paintings are inspired by the diverse colors of light, atmosphere, and nature. She uses color to enliven peaceful landscapes, seascapes, and gardens. Her paintings try to be more than a snapshot, giving a feel of the breeze on a summer sail or a memory of an evening walk. Brushstrokes over glimpses of color intentionally reveal some painting process. After growing up in South Windsor, Connecticut, Barbara attended UMASS Dartmouth. Her degree in textile design has given her a background in color but she often paints plein air to learn from nature. She is a juried artist of the Cape Cod Art Center, and National Association of Woman Artists. Her studio in Dartmouth, MA is on the South Coast Artists Open Studio Tour. www.barbarahealypainter.com |
