The lilt of a tune, the stroke of a brush; the arc of a note, the curve of a sculpture. Throughout the ages, music and visual arts have played in harmony, intertwining to express the fullness of fine arts and culture. It is an artistic partnership where creativity and innovation are sparked and shared in equal measure. Consider the dance of light and sound in the music of Debussy and in the light and color of Monet’s impressionism; the sweetness of melody as Nat King Cole serenades “Mona Lisa” or the vivid images as Adele is “Painting Pictures” with lyrics that are interpreted and captured on a canvas.
This exhibition will feature images representing the inspiration music and songwriters have played in artists artwork; how music has influenced, inspired and invigorated artists adventure in visual arts. Music as Muse will be on view at our Community Gallery at Rogers Free Library.
“A painter paints pictures on canvas. But musicians paint their pictures on silence.”
Leopold Stokowski, conductor, the Philadelphia Orchestra
