Do you have clothes you love but feel that they are in need of a little TLC or mending and aren’t sure where to start? If you feel a little anxious about mending by hand or simply hand stitching for the joy of it, this is the class for you!
In this beginner embroidered mending class we will cover the following:
- Different types of mending stitches and what kinds of repairs to use them for.
- Basic embroidery stitches.
- Incorporating out of the box (not scary) applique into your mending or embroidery designs.
- We will discuss sourcing fabrics and fibers to mend with and how you can incorporate non traditional embroidery fibers (yarn, string, ribbon, etc.) into your mends.
- How to come up with ideas and images for your projects.
Students don’t even have to know how to thread a needle to take this class! You will be stitching and mending in no time.
The instructor will provide basic sewing supplies for everyone, as well as extra embroidery hoops students may use during the class. If students have their own hand stitching supplies, they are encouraged to bring them to class.
Other required supplies:
- A garment to mend or a piece of plain(ish) fabric to embroider on. The fabric should be at least 12”x12”.
- An embroidery hoop. An eight - ten inch hoop is about the right size.
- Any fabric scraps or fibers you may want to use on your project.
