Step off the beaten path with us. The Bristol Art Museum announces a Call to Artists for a juried, community exhibit at the Rogers Free Library. The theme of the exhibit is sparked by the Library Summer Reading program “Read Beyond the Beaten Path”.

Artwork can be inspired by the quotes and poems below – how did you take a different path in your artwork, how did you explore something new in your life? Or by nature – what can we see when we explore “beyond the beaten path” to explore our natural world?

It was all according to the way you see things.  Some people could look at a mud-puddle and see an ocean with ships.”
  • Zora Neale Hurston, Their Eyes Were Watching God
Change is made of choices,
and choices are made of character.

  • Amanda Gorman, Call Us What We Carry

Keep your kingdoms
Give me only
the open road
the stars in the sky
the smell of a campfire
around the bend
and I will be as rich as any king.
  • Atticus
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I--I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

  • Robert Frost, The Road Not Taken

  • BLM - The Board of Directors of the Bristol Art Museum mourn the senseless death of George Floyd and all the victims of racial injustice. The Board actively supports efforts to bridge racial disparities, to reject racism, and to work toward making Bristol a much more culturally rich and inclusive community through the arts. The Board believes art fosters learning, contemplation, and critical discourse; it recognizes positive change is achieved through active engagement with the town and residents. Change happens when communities work together to achieve common goals. Therefore, Bristol Art Museum is committed to developing exhibits and programs around equity, respect, and compassion. These are the organization's guiding principles and touchstones for moving forward.
