Bristol, RI - May 1, 2024 - The Bristol Art Museum, in collaboration with Rogers Free Library, announces a call for art for their upcoming exhibit, ‘Scapes. This exhibition invites photographers to showcase their original works focusing on various landscapes, cityscapes, and unique perspectives of terrains.
The exhibit will be on view in the Community Galleries of the Rogers Free Library from July 22 to Sept. 11. Photographic artists Bonnie and Marc Jaffe will serve as the jurors for the exhibit.
Inspired by the words of French novelist and literary critic Marcel Proust, "the real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes, but in having new eyes."
“Our next exhibit, 'Scapes’ challenges photographers to explore and capture the essence of natural and urban environments through their lenses,” said Vicky McGrath, Bristol Art Museum Board Member. “Whether it's the rugged beauty of countryside vistas, the intricate details of urban landscapes, or the ethereal formations of cloudscapes, this exhibition seeks to showcase the diversity and creativity of photographic artistry. We welcome photographers of all abilities with a passion for telling a story through a lens to submit works of art for consideration in this exhibit.”
Bonnie and Marc Jaffe, the jurors and native Rhode Islanders, have practiced photographic artistry since 2006. With numerous accolades and regional exhibitions to their credit, their expertise and discerning eye will ensure a compelling selection of artworks for the 'Scapes' exhibit.
Bonnie is a member of the Providence Art Club, Wickford Art Association, Rhode Island Center for the Photographic Arts, among others. She began her formal study of photography in high school, then attended the Rhode Island School of Design where she earned a BFA. Marc is also a member of the Providence Art Club, Wickford Art Association, Rhode Island Center for the Photographic Arts, and more. His style leans toward humor and patterns in various situations. He also showcases the uniqueness of people being themselves, often in solitary moments. Marc prefers not to alter images but rather strives to capture and showcase images in their original state.
Submission Guidelines: All artwork must be photography and original works by the submitting artist. Works may be created using any photographic equipment and processed as desired and cannot exceed 18 inches by 24 inches in size.
Photographers are responsible for insuring their own work if desired and the work may be offered for sale, with all transactions negotiated directly between the artist and the collector. The deadline to submit photography on the Bristol Art Museum website at [LINK] is 11:59 p.m. on June 17. The submission fee schedule is as follows: · Bristol Art Museum Members: $20 for one submission / $30 for up to three submissions. · Non-Members: $25 for one submission / $40 for up to three submissions.
Artists whose work is selected for the exhibit will be notified no later than Sat. Jun. 29. Questions about the exhibit can be directed to [email protected].
